Yesterday I had coffee with a delightful lady, a friend of a friend who’s been a guest for dinner at my house a couple of times. She was shoved out of the workplace recently after several decades of steady 9-to-5 jobs. She’s scared that she won’t be able to find another job—and equally scared that she will.

She’s being coached by a mutual friend who encouraged her to pick my brain about ideas for her future. She doesn’t know a lot about blogging, but she thinks it sounds like fun. She hasn’t been doing much in the way of social media, but she has a feeling she probably should. She’s considering the alternatives to a “real job.”

I had a great time filling in some of the gaps in her knowledge. I also enjoyed hearing what she had to say about ideas to share on a blog. She has a perspective that will resonate for lots of people: she spent many years in corporate America, and now she’s been tossed into the “new economy,” which she finds scary and exciting. Until now, she’s never contemplated self-employment, solo entrepreneurship, or making a living without a job—but she’s eager to try it. She’s ready to get her feet wet in Facebook and LinkedIn. She wants to learn some new tricks and experiment with a new approach to working life.

We’ll be setting up her blog soon. I can’t wait to read what she has to say. I’ll announce it here when she’s ready to launch!
